Dance House Glasgow take up residence in the CCA from Sat 6th to Sat 13th January with a celebratory festival programme of participatory dance classes, dance-along screenings, artist labs and opportunities for professional dancers. From absolute beginners to experienced dancers, there is something for all abilities embracing world, contemporary and classical styles.
Scotland's 1940/50s inspired Dance Troupe, The Kennedy Cupcakes, will take participants on an adventure back in time, learning a fun-filled dance routine to a soundtrack of Golden Era classics.
Participants will also be invited to explore the world of Bollywood; try their hand at exotic styles such as Bellydance; or opt for an introduction to the art of Flamenco. In an ode to the ‘decades’ attendees can take part in sessions inspired by vintage styles from the roaring 20s such as the Charleston as well as 70s Disco and 80s Jazz.
During the festival, artists Adam Sloan and Rosalind Masson will take part in our Creative Lab programme which furnishes artists wishing to develop a new or existing piece of work with a week-long residency. They act as an incubator for nurturing choreographic talent and a testing ground for the growth of embryonic ideas. Throughout the festival they’ll be sharing their work with audiences.
We’ll also be hosting ‘Dayklub’; a family friendly daytime disco as well as a dance along family screening of blockbuster adventure film Moana. Dance House Glasgow will lead a fun and inclusive warm up, teach you key dance moves to the film’s iconic soundtrack and lead you through simple and catchy sequences whilst you watch the movie.
