GET SCOTLAND DANCING

Dance House was proud to be the ‘Get Scotland Dancing’ programming hub for Greater Glasgow in 2014. ‘Get Scotland Dancing’ was an initiative that brought together professional and amateur dancers of all ages to dance in public spaces in our towns, villages and cities – bringing dance to the people and people to dance.

To celebrate this, Dance House Glasgow presented an exciting array of workshops and dance performances as part of Merchant City Festival which took place in Merchant Square from Friday 1 – Sunday 3 August 2014.

Friday 1 August

1.00pm - 1.45pm
Barefoot Boogie
Merchant Square

Following last year's sensational event, you can once again dance 'til you drop in the fabulous Merchant Square, accompanied by music to get your socks off. This event is suitable for people of all ages and completely child friendly. The only condition is you leave your shoes by the dancefloor!

7.00pm – 9.00pm
The Glasgow Tango Studio with Sari Lievonen & Jeff Allan
Merchant Square

See, hear and try for yourself the mesmerizing dance of Argentine Tango. Dancers from the Glasgow Tango Studio will demonstrate how to express this passionate and beautiful music as a social dance. This is the style of tango danced in Milongas, the formal social dance events in Buenos Aires as well as around the world. When danced socially, Argentine Tango is not only about dancing the tango; we also dance tango-vals and the joyful milonga, the oldest form of dance and music of all these three dances, which will also be included in the programme.

During this event, Glasgow Tango Studio founders Sari Lievonen & Jeff Allan will also treat you to more elaborate tango moves with their demonstration of performance tango. In addition to seeing the performances the audience is welcome to try for themselves some tango steps in a taster session with Sari & Jeff, during which you can be partnered with one of the more experienced dancers to fast track the beginning of your tango journey.

7.00pm – 7.30pm Milonga – demonstration with GTS dancers
