Steinvor Palsson

Contemporary (Cunningham based)

Steinvor Palsson has been working as a freelance dance artist, teacher and choreographer for almost 40 years. Her performance work includes the Spiral Contemporary Dance Company, Scottish Opera, The Royal Opera and Matthew Hawkins’ Imminent Dancers Group. She has been teaching regular classes at Dance Base since 1993 and is in her eighth year at the RCS as a part-time lecturer in contemporary dance on the BA Modern Ballet programme. Steinvor has taught widely throughout the UK including The Rambert School, The University of Surrey, The Edinburgh College, Dance For All and The Space and has taught company class to Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Her choreography includes The Minotaur for Scottish Opera, projects with Scottish Opera’s and Scottish Ballet’s respective Education Departments, the Ceremony of the Keys at Holyrood Palace, Off Kilter, The Ensemble Group, The Scottish International Storytelling Festival and a specially commissioned piece for St Giles Cathedral for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2013/14. In the same year she performed in the Company Chordelia and Scottish Opera co-production Dance Derby. Her latest project was Carry on Dancing for PRIME, the over 60’s company based at Dance Base which was shown in the Fringe 2016. Her next project is creating a piece for the Lothian Youth Dance Group.
